School Bus Driver

Firststudent is seeking a dedicated School Bus Driver in New Haven, CT to join our fleet and provide safe, reliable transportation for students. As a full-time School Bus Driver, you'll operate a commercial vehicle, ensure passenger safety, and maintain the schedules that keep local schools running smoothly. This role offers independence, community impact, and the responsibility of protecting young passengers every day.

What This Role Involves

You'll operate a school bus on assigned routes throughout the New Haven area, transporting students safely to and from school each day. The role requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to student safety and well-being. You'll manage your vehicle with care, follow all traffic and safety regulations, and serve as a trusted adult on your route.

Responsibilities

• Operate a school bus safely on assigned routes according to schedule
• Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs
• Supervise student passengers and enforce safety rules on the bus
• Communicate with school administrators and dispatch about route changes or issues
• Maintain accurate logs of mileage, fuel, and student ridership
• Report accidents, incidents, or traffic violations promptly
• Follow federal and state transportation regulations and safety protocols

Requirements

• Valid Connecticut driver's license and a clean driving record
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement, or ability to obtain one
• Pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening
• Pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical examination
• Available to work early morning and afternoon shifts
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Professional attitude and commitment to student safety
