About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI safety organization in their search for an experienced Research Recruiter. Our client is a well-funded startup building critical infrastructure in the AI safety space, and they need a recruiter who deeply understands the AI research talent landscape.

This is a remote, full-cycle recruiting role focused on hiring exceptional research scientists, machine learning engineers, and ML infrastructure specialists. You'll be the talent partner to a technical leadership team solving hard problems at the intersection of AI safety, model behavior, and production systems.

Responsibilities

• Own full-cycle recruitment for ML/AI Research, Multimodal ML Engineer, Research Scientist (AI Behaviors, Evaluations, Agentic Systems), and ML Infrastructure roles
• Develop deep understanding of the organization's research agenda, technical challenges, and ideal candidate profiles
• Source talent from AI labs, research organizations, technical startups, universities, open-source communities, and scientific networks
• Assess candidates based on actual contributions—publications, open-source work, models, datasets, experiments, and production systems
• Engage passive candidates and communicate why the organization's technical problems are meaningful
• Design structured hiring processes that evaluate research depth, engineering ability, originality, and real-world impact
• Deliver exceptional candidate experience, including for those navigating multiple competitive opportunities
• Track recruiting performance and continuously improve sourcing strategies, processes, and tools
• Support hiring across other functions when business priorities require flexibility

What We're Looking For

• 2+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience with significant focus on Research and ML talent
• Direct experience hiring for roles such as Research Scientist, Research Engineer, ML Research Engineer, Applied Scientist, Multimodal ML Engineer, or ML Infrastructure Engineer
• Clear understanding of how these roles differ in responsibilities, technical depth, and candidate pools
• Ability to discuss LLM training and fine-tuning, inference, evaluations, data pipelines, model behavior, multimodal learning, agent systems, and ML infrastructure
• Skill in evaluating technical profiles beyond keywords and job titles—assessing the significance of publications, open-source contributions, models, datasets, and production systems
• Knowledge of where exceptional AI research talent can be found and how to reach candidates through non-conventional channels
• Active participation in or close following of AI research and engineering communities
• Ability to build credibility with highly technical candidates and communicate nuanced research problems accurately
• Experience recruiting across US and European markets
• Comfort operating with ambiguity and refining profiles as research priorities evolve
• Fluent English (C1+ level)

Highly Valued:

• Experience recruiting for a frontier AI lab, AI safety organization, or research-focused startup
• Strong existing network among AI researchers, research engineers, and ML infrastructure specialists
• Experience sourcing through publications, conference programs, citations, GitHub, open-source projects, and academic labs
• Technical or research background in computer science, machine learning, mathematics, or related field
• Experience recruiting for early-stage startups where research direction evolves quickly
