Real Estate Accountant

About the Role

Hilltop Residential is building a strong finance team to support our growing multifamily real estate investments. As a Real Estate Accountant, you'll be the financial backbone for our property operations, ensuring accurate accounting practices, timely reporting, and compliance across our portfolio. Reporting directly to the Controller, you'll be part of a collaborative team that values accuracy, initiative, and growth.

Your Responsibilities

• Execute property-level accounting functions including transaction processing, reconciliation, and ledger management for multifamily rental properties
• Prepare comprehensive monthly financial reports and statements for each property in our investment portfolio
• Maintain accurate records of income, expenses, depreciation, and capital expenditures according to real estate accounting standards
• Assist with general ledger reconciliation, bank account matching, and account analysis
• Support the controller and finance team with ad hoc accounting projects and special assignments as priorities evolve
• Contribute to year-end close, audit preparation, and tax filing activities

Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; accounting coursework, certification (CPA, CPA candidate, or similar), or recent accounting graduate background preferred
• Basic to intermediate proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; real estate accounting experience a plus
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet monthly reporting deadlines
• Understanding of double-entry accounting principles and basic financial statement structure
• Ability to work independently while remaining responsive to team guidance and feedback
• Professional communication skills and reliability in a team-oriented environment
