Principal Staff Engineer – Web Platform

PlanetArt is seeking a Principal Staff Engineer – Web Platform to lead the design and evolution of our web architecture and platform systems in our Calabasas, California office. This full-time role offers the opportunity to shape technical strategy, drive organizational excellence, and mentor engineering leaders across the web platform organization.

What This Role Involves

As Principal Staff Engineer for our Web Platform, you'll hold deep ownership of the technical architecture, scalability, and developer experience of our web systems. You'll drive the technical vision and strategy that enables PlanetArt to build faster, more reliably, and with greater confidence. This position blends hands-on engineering with strategic leadership—you'll both contribute directly to the most impactful technical challenges and set the direction for teams across the organization.

Core Duties

• Design, architect, and continuously evolve web platform infrastructure to meet current and future product demands
• Lead technical initiatives that drive improvements in performance, reliability, and developer productivity
• Mentor and influence senior and staff-level engineers, fostering technical growth and establishing best practices
• Partner with product and leadership teams to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions
• Create and maintain architectural documentation, technical roadmaps, and decision records for the organization
• Evaluate and guide high-impact technical proposals and implementations across the platform
• Contribute hands-on engineering to critical and strategic projects

What You Bring

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial depth in web platform and infrastructure work
• Demonstrated success designing, shipping, and operating large-scale web systems
• Deep technical expertise in modern web frameworks, languages, and architectural patterns
• Proven ability to mentor and influence senior engineers across organizations
• Strong systems thinking with the judgment to balance immediate delivery against long-term architectural quality
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to articulate technical vision to executives, engineers, and cross-functional partners
