Platform Engineer (Edge / Docker / IIoT)

Position Summary

As a Platform Engineer focused on Edge, Docker, and IIoT technologies at Portainer.io, you'll own the design, deployment, and optimization of containerized platform infrastructure at the edge. This role bridges development operations and systems engineering, requiring hands-on expertise with Docker, container orchestration, and Industrial IoT architectures. You'll work with teams to ensure platform reliability, security, and performance across distributed edge environments serving critical business functions.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Design and implement platform solutions using Docker and container technologies for edge and IoT deployments
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines tailored for edge computing environments
• Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues in containerized workloads running on edge hardware
• Collaborate with development teams to optimize application deployment strategies
• Monitor platform health, security, and resource utilization across distributed infrastructure
• Document platform architecture, configurations, and operational procedures
• Participate in on-call rotations to ensure platform availability

What We're Looking For

• Strong hands-on experience with Docker, container runtimes, and orchestration platforms
• Demonstrated understanding of edge computing architectures and constraints
• Knowledge of Industrial IoT (IIoT) systems, protocols, or deployments
• Proficiency with Linux system administration and networking fundamentals
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools and automated deployment practices
• Ability to design for reliability, security, and performance in distributed systems
• Strong problem-solving skills and comfort troubleshooting complex technical issues
• Excellent communication and collaboration across technical teams
