Part-Time Faculty, Legal Foundations of Business

Marist University is seeking a Part-Time Faculty member to teach Legal Foundations of Business in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County.

About the Role

This part‑time appointment supports the School of Management by delivering an introductory business law course to undergraduate students. The instructor will guide learners through core legal concepts that affect commercial transactions, contracts, liability, and regulatory compliance.

The appointment carries a compensation rate of $1,270 per credit, with adjustments based on years of service at Marist and variations for online, graduate, or lab‑based courses.

What You'll Do

• Develop and update a syllabus that aligns with departmental learning outcomes and accreditation standards.
• Deliver engaging lectures and facilitate discussions that connect legal theory to real‑world business scenarios.
• Design assessments, including exams and assignments, to evaluate student comprehension and critical thinking.
• Provide timely feedback and hold regular office hours to support student success.
• Maintain awareness of current legal developments and incorporate relevant case law into course content.
• Collaborate with full‑time faculty and administrative staff to ensure course consistency and quality.

What We're Looking For

• A Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent advanced law degree; LL.M. or specialized business law credentials are a plus.
• Proven experience in legal practice, academia, or a related field that demonstrates mastery of business law topics.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly to diverse learners.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive classroom environment that respects varied perspectives.
• Familiarity with instructional technology, especially for delivering content in face‑to‑face, online, or hybrid formats.
• Willingness to adhere to Marist University’s academic policies and participate in departmental meetings as required.
