GRO Community is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Specialist to join our team in Waukegan, Lake County, supporting boys and men of color on their path toward healing and trauma recovery.
About the Role
As a full-time Mental Health Specialist with GRO Community in Waukegan, you will deliver culturally responsive, trauma-informed care to males of color ages five and older. Reporting to the MHP Supervisor, this on-site position is central to our mission of restoring stability, resilience, and well-being across the communities we serve.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide trauma recovery support and mental health services to males of color ages five and up.
- Build trusting, respectful relationships with clients and their families.
- Develop and implement individualized care approaches grounded in each client's lived experience.
- Collaborate with the MHP Supervisor and program staff to coordinate effective treatment.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in line with clinical and organizational standards.
Qualifications
- Background or training in mental health, social work, counseling, or a related human-services field.
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice and the unique needs of males of color.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and cultural-competency skills.
- Commitment to working on-site in Waukegan and serving the local community.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative care team.
