Intermediate Backend Engineer, EMEA

About the Opportunity

We are representing a confidential DevSecOps platform organization seeking an Intermediate Backend Engineer for their EMEA team, based in Poland. This is a remote-first role where you'll take ownership of backend features from problem definition through production deployment, working within a product-focused engineering team.

Our client operates at significant scale, serving millions of users globally. You'll work in a high-trust environment with minimal guidance, partnering across Product, Frontend, Infrastructure, and Security to deliver features that matter. Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and ship backend features and improvements with minimal oversight, primarily using Ruby/Rails or Go
• Write maintainable, secure, and performant production code including APIs, background jobs, integrations, and service functionality
• Work with data models, migrations, database indexes, and query optimization
• Build and improve automated test coverage across unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end testing
• Review code from other engineers for correctness, security, performance, and operational considerations
• Investigate and resolve build, test, deployment, and runtime failures within your feature area
• Identify technical debt and propose practical improvements to shared backend systems
• Participate in on-call or operational support as required by team ownership models
• Use AI tools productively in daily engineering work while validating outputs and understanding limitations

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Professional experience building and shipping production backend applications
• Strong fundamentals in programming, API design, databases, testing, debugging, and performance optimization
• Experience with Ruby/Rails, Go, or other modern backend languages (ability to learn matters more than specific language mastery)
• Demonstrated ability to own features from clarification through delivery and production follow-up
• Sound judgment regarding security, reliability, performance, maintainability, and operational risk
• Understanding of modular backend architecture and service boundaries
• Excellent written communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in remote, asynchronous environments
• Practical experience with AI coding tools, including ability to review and validate generated code

Helpful but not required:

• Production experience with Go services, APIs, concurrency, profiling, or gRPC
• Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, CI/CD pipelines, or cloud deployment experience
• Rust experience, particularly for systems or performance-critical work
• PostgreSQL expertise including schema evolution, caching, queues, or event-driven architectures
• Observability implementation using metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerting
• Experience contributing to modular monoliths, bounded contexts, or independently operated services

Pay

Base salary range for this role in Poland: 248,000 PLN – 372,000 PLN annually. Final compensation will be determined based on your experience, skills, and interview performance. This is a full-time employee position with the client organization, including eligibility for their benefits, equity compensation, flexible time off, parental leave, and professional development support.
