Interior Designer – SF/SLC

HOK is hiring a full-time Interior Designer in San Francisco, California to lead the creative vision and execution of dynamic commercial and institutional projects from concept to completion. You'll apply strategic thinking, spatial expertise, and design innovation to shape how organizations work, learn, and gather.

About the Role

As an Interior Designer at HOK's San Francisco studio, you'll own the design direction of projects, translating client goals and user needs into compelling, functional interiors. You'll work across the full project lifecycle—from programming and planning through construction documentation and implementation—ensuring every decision serves both aesthetic vision and practical outcomes.

What You'll Do

• Lead programming activities including space planning, block layouts, and detailed planning of furniture, equipment, and finishes
• Develop conceptual design directions that balance innovation with client objectives and project constraints
• Coordinate lighting design, color palettes, and material selections to create cohesive interior environments
• Create detailed design specifications, floor plans, and construction documents
• Present design concepts and solutions to clients, stakeholders, and internal teams
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and consultants to integrate interior systems with building infrastructure
• Manage design quality and project schedules through completion

What We're Looking For

• Portfolio demonstrating strong conceptual thinking and executed interior projects
• Proficiency in design software and building information modeling (BIM) tools
• Solid understanding of building codes, ADA compliance, and sustainable design practices
• Excellent verbal and visual communication skills
• Ability to synthesize complex requirements into clear, strategic design solutions
• Professional judgment, creativity, and foresight in solving design challenges
• Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
