IAM Director, Employer Engagement

About the Role

In this leadership position, you'll shape the identity and access management vision for Merck's employer relations division—a critical function serving a market that spends over $190 billion annually on prescription drugs and manages $1.7 trillion in total healthcare expenditures. You'll drive strategic initiatives that strengthen security, streamline access workflows, and ensure seamless partner integration across our employer engagement ecosystem.

What You'll Do

• Develop and execute IAM strategy aligned with employer engagement business objectives and enterprise security standards
• Lead and mentor an IAM team, fostering a culture of technical excellence and security-first thinking
• Design and oversee identity governance frameworks that balance user access with regulatory compliance
• Manage relationships with identity and access technology vendors, evaluating solutions and optimizing implementations
• Establish access provisioning and deprovisioning processes for employer partners and internal stakeholders
• Drive multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, and other advanced authentication initiatives
• Collaborate with business partners, IT leadership, and compliance teams to align IAM capabilities with employer engagement goals
• Monitor and improve access control effectiveness, security posture, and operational efficiency

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of identity and access management experience, with 5+ years in a leadership or director-level role
• Expertise in IAM technologies, including identity governance, privileged access management, and directory services
• Demonstrated success building and scaling high-performing teams
• Strong understanding of healthcare compliance frameworks (HIPAA, SOX) and data security regulations
• Experience with enterprise identity platforms and integration architectures
• Excellent strategic thinking, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, business administration, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
