This is a full-time career opportunity with a respected Great Lakes operator committed to safety, operational efficiency, and professional development. As a Piloting Mate, you'll take the watch in navigation, oversee deck crew and operations, and maintain the highest standards of vessel handling across the Great Lakes region.
What You'll Do
- Conduct vessel navigation using charts, GPS, and radar systems to maintain safe passage
- Supervise deck crew during watch rotations, cargo handling, and port operations
- Ensure full compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations and maritime safety requirements
- Monitor weather, sea conditions, and vessel performance to support safe operations
- Coordinate with bridge and engine room to execute efficient vessel maneuvers
- Maintain detailed navigation logs and operational documentation
- Contribute to a culture of continuous safety improvement and teamwork
What We're Looking For
- Valid U.S. Coast Guard license (Mate) for Great Lakes operations
- Proven experience aboard Great Lakes commercial vessels
- Expert knowledge of navigation systems, charting, and maritime procedures
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and regulatory compliance
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Flexibility with rotating watch schedules and extended seasons
