Grade 6 Teacher (English and Social Studies)

School Administrative Unit 64 in Milton, Strafford County is hiring a full-time Grade 6 Teacher to lead English and Social Studies instruction at Nute Middle High School. We're seeking an educator who creates an inclusive learning environment where middle-grade students develop strong literacy skills, historical understanding, and social-emotional confidence.

About the Role

This is a full-time position teaching English Language Arts and Social Studies to sixth-grade students at Nute Middle High School. The role centers on building student engagement through literature-rich instruction, inquiry-based social studies learning, and a classroom climate where all learners feel valued and supported. You'll collaborate with colleagues across the school, communicate regularly with families, and contribute to School Administrative Unit 64's mission of comprehensive, inclusive middle-grade education.

What You'll Do

• Deliver standards-aligned English Language Arts instruction that develops reading comprehension, writing fluency, and communication skills
• Design and teach social studies lessons that bring history and civics to life through active, engaging learning
• Create a welcoming, culturally responsive classroom where diverse learners thrive academically and socially
• Assess student progress and adjust instruction to meet individual learning needs and learning styles
• Build positive relationships with students and families through consistent communication and partnership
• Participate in professional development and school-wide initiatives that advance student success

What We're Looking For

• Valid New Hampshire teaching certification in English Language Arts, Social Studies, or related area (or demonstrated path to certification)
• Bachelor's degree in education or a relevant subject area
• Experience or demonstrated ability to teach middle-grade students (grades 5–8 preferred)
• Commitment to student-centered, inclusive teaching practices and social-emotional learning
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, families, and colleagues
• Genuine enthusiasm for fostering literacy development and historical thinking in young learners
