Firefighter Paramedic

The City of Newport Beach Fire Department is actively recruiting Firefighter Paramedics to deliver emergency medical services, fire suppression, and life safety support across Corona Del Mar and the greater Orange County coastal community. As a Firefighter Paramedic with the City of Newport Beach, you'll provide critical emergency response services to approximately 85,000 residents, a population that expands beyond 100,000 during peak summer tourism season.

What This Role Involves

This full-time position combines professional firefighting expertise with advanced paramedicine. Firefighter Paramedics at the City of Newport Beach respond to emergency calls involving structure fires, vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, water rescues, and hazardous situations. You'll deliver high-quality pre-hospital patient care, operate fire suppression equipment, and collaborate with emergency response teams to protect life and property throughout your service area.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency calls for fire suppression, medical aid, rescue operations, and hazardous conditions
• Perform patient assessments, provide advanced life support treatment, and transport patients to medical facilities
• Operate and maintain firefighting equipment, apparatus, and medical gear
• Execute firefighting and rescue techniques in structure fires, wildfires, vehicle accidents, and other emergencies
• Maintain station readiness and support community education and public outreach initiatives
• Participate in ongoing training to maintain certifications and develop professional skills
• Work collaboratively with crew members and external agencies during multi-unit emergency responses

Skills & Qualifications

• Valid California driver's license
• CPR and AED certification
• California Paramedic certification or equivalent (or demonstrated ability to obtain certification)
• Physical fitness capable of performing strenuous activity in high-temperature and hazardous environments
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse teams and community members
• Problem-solving ability and sound judgment in high-pressure situations
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
