Position Summary

As a Financial Specialist I with the University of Wisconsin Madison, you'll be central to maintaining the financial integrity and operational efficiency of our accounting functions. You'll process transactions, reconcile accounts, maintain financial records, and contribute to budget management and reporting across university departments. Working in a supportive team environment, you'll gain exposure to all aspects of university financial operations.

Core Duties

• Process, code, and reconcile financial transactions and account statements
• Maintain and update financial records, databases, and documentation
• Support budget development, tracking, monitoring, and closure activities
• Assist with reconciliation of accounts and verification of data accuracy
• Prepare routine financial reports and documentation for internal stakeholders
• Field questions from departments and provide financial information assistance
• Ensure adherence to university policies and financial regulations

Who We're Looking For

• High school diploma or general equivalency diploma
• Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail
• Familiarity with spreadsheet applications and comfort learning financial software
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
• Customer service orientation when assisting internal departments
• Interest in developing knowledge of university accounting and finance
