About the Role
As Financial Accounting Assistant in the Surgery department, you'll play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting departmental budgeting initiatives at one of the nation's premier academic medical institutions. Working 40 hours weekly, you'll contribute to the financial health of surgery programs through meticulous data management and reporting.
What You'll Do
- Assist in collecting, organizing, and verifying financial data according to established accounting procedures
- Prepare financial reports, budget forecasts, and annual summaries for departmental leadership
- Enter and maintain data within the organization's cost accounting system
- Create and update financial spreadsheets using accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Monitor departmental spending against approved budgets and flag discrepancies
- Support month-end and year-end close processes
- Respond to finance inquiries and requests from Surgery department managers
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent; accounting coursework or certification a plus
- Proficiency with spreadsheet software (Excel) and basic accounting systems
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy with financial information
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and follow established procedures
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred
