Sulphur Springs Independent School District is seeking a dedicated Grade 5 Reading and Language Arts (RLA) teacher to join our campus team in Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County. This full-time position offers the opportunity to shape young learners' literacy skills and foster their love of reading and communication during a critical stage of academic development.
About the Role
As a Grade 5 RLA instructor, you will guide students through engaging reading experiences, writing instruction, and language skills development. Your classroom will be a dynamic space where fifth graders build comprehension strategies, express themselves through writing, and develop the communication skills essential for future academic success. You'll work closely with your principal and grade-level team to deliver high-quality instruction aligned with district standards.
What You'll Do
- Deliver effective reading and language arts instruction that builds student comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary skills
- Create an inclusive, supportive learning environment where all students can grow as readers and writers
- Develop and implement writing assignments across multiple genres and purposes
- Teach grammar, mechanics, and language conventions in authentic, engaging contexts
- Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction to meet diverse learner needs
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, professional development, and student interventions
- Communicate with families about student progress and learning opportunities
- Maintain a classroom culture that promotes intellectual curiosity and effective communication
What We're Looking For
- Valid Texas teaching certification or eligibility for a teaching certificate in Reading/Language Arts
- Strong knowledge of reading instruction, literacy development, and best practices in language arts education
- Ability to differentiate instruction and support learners at varying levels
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and student success
- Experience working with diverse student populations is valued
