Family Engagement Specialist – Head Start/Early Head Start

Family & Children's Place is hiring a Full-Time Family Engagement Specialist to support Head Start and Early Head Start families in Louisville, Jefferson County. This is a vital role connecting young children, their families, and community resources to ensure every child has the foundation they need to thrive.

About the Role

As a Family Engagement Specialist with Head Start and Early Head Start programs, you'll be the bridge between families and our early childhood services. You'll develop meaningful relationships with parents and caregivers, understand their unique circumstances, and connect them with the support and resources that strengthen family stability and child development. Your work directly impacts family well-being and school readiness outcomes for our youngest learners.

What You'll Do

• Conduct home visits and family assessments to understand needs and build trusting partnerships with Head Start and Early Head Start families
• Organize and facilitate family engagement activities, workshops, and learning events that empower parents
• Connect families with community resources, social services, and referrals for health, mental health, housing, and economic support
• Maintain regular, consistent communication with enrolled families through phone calls, visits, and in-person meetings
• Serve as a daily liaison between classrooms and families, sharing child progress and classroom updates
• Support classroom teachers and playground supervision to maintain positive learning environments
• Document family interactions, progress, and outcomes according to program requirements
• Collaborate with the Head Start and Early Head Start team to ensure families feel welcomed and valued

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework or previous family services experience preferred
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills with diverse families and backgrounds
• Ability to listen with empathy and work respectfully across cultural differences
• Reliable transportation and willingness to conduct home visits throughout Louisville and Jefferson County
• Organized, detail-oriented approach to documentation and follow-up
• Genuine commitment to child development, family empowerment, and community partnership
