Engineering Manager (m/f/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential digital identity technology organization seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a global engineering team in Berlin. In this role, you will oversee the continued development of a multi-component platform, balancing hands-on technical leadership with strategic team growth and collaboration across product, design, infrastructure, and engineering functions.

Your core responsibilities will include:

• Leading your engineering team to develop secure, well-tested, high-performance features primarily using TypeScript with Node.js and React
• Analyzing and interpreting complex technical problems and converting them into actionable tasks for the team
• Collaborating with product management, UX designers, and cross-functional stakeholders to maintain quality standards in a fast-paced, iterative environment
• Building product and technology roadmaps alongside peers, product managers, designers, and stakeholders
• Advocating for improvements to product quality, security, and performance
• Guiding the team in solving large-scope, complex technical problems
• Establishing and maintaining internal standards for code style, maintainability, and best practices for high-scale systems
• Owning delivery of complex features and improvements while collaborating on larger cross-functional projects
• Coaching and mentoring engineers to achieve their next level of career and professional growth
• Fostering a diverse, collaborative, transparent culture where all voices are valued equally

What We're Looking For

Our client is seeking a hands-on technical leader who can balance direct contribution with strategic delegation. The ideal candidate will bring:

• Proven track record of leading engineering teams delivering production-quality products in fast-paced, global environments
• Strong leadership skills in setting vision, fostering autonomy, mentoring, and driving collaboration across distributed teams
• Experience leading teams to deliver production-quality products according to industry standards, combined with excellent technical writing skills
• Hands-on coding skills with a pragmatic approach to when to code directly versus delegate
• Deep experience diagnosing and preventing performance and optimization issues, with passion for scaling knowledge through mentorship
• Champion of clean architecture, CI/CD pipelines, testing best practices, and coding standards
• Solid background in cloud-native environments (AWS serverless preferred), microservices, and event-driven architectures
• Proficiency in design patterns and architectural documentation (C4 Model, ADRs)
• Experience building developer tools such as CLIs, SDKs, and developer portals
• Extensive experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, and React; familiarity with Rust, Dart, or Go is a plus
• Hands-on expertise with REST APIs, Test-Driven Development, and commitment to privacy by design, security, and high-performance systems
