DevOps Engineer Application Management Services (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential IT consultancy that operates mission-critical platforms for clients in the public sector. Our client is seeking a DevOps Engineer to join their Application Management Services team in Berlin, Bonn, or Essen.

This is not a role where you simply maintain pipelines—you'll architect complete operational and deployment platforms, take responsibility for production customer environments, and implement modern DevOps practices from build through rollout. You'll work on platforms supporting regulatory compliance environments, where automation, Infrastructure as Code, and GitOps principles are fundamental.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize automated build, test, and deployment processes
• Develop custom Puppet modules and automation solutions
• Execute rollouts in customer production environments
• Provide architecture and operational guidance to development teams
• Analyze and resolve complex operational issues as third-level support
• Build and advance monitoring, logging, and observability solutions
• Operate and enhance CI/CD platforms using Jenkins, Bitbucket, Maven, and related tools
• Manage and evolve Kubernetes platforms with Cluster API and ArgoCD
• Contribute to modern GitOps and cloud-native architectures
• Work with PostgreSQL databases and Spring Boot middleware
• Maintain Ubuntu Linux and Windows Server environments

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Proven experience in Linux environments
• Strong background in automation and Infrastructure as Code
• Understanding of modern DevOps principles and sustainable solution design
• Deep expertise in at least one area: Puppet/Bolt, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes/Cluster API, or Linux administration
• Native-level German and good English proficiency
• Enthusiasm for autonomous work and ownership of solutions

Valued Additionally:

• Experience operating business-critical applications in production
• PostgreSQL administration experience
• Knowledge of observability and monitoring solutions (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana)
• Shell scripting proficiency (Bash or PowerShell)
• Familiarity with Java/Kotlin or Spring Boot
• Experience in regulated or security-critical environments
• Background with Terraform, container technologies, or GitOps workflows

You'll work with a comprehensive technology stack including Jenkins, Bitbucket, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Puppet, Terraform, and modern observability tools. This role offers the chance to become a true full-stack engineer for operating modern applications.
