Deputy Attorney I, II, or III

Uintah County UT is hiring a Deputy Attorney (Level I, II, or III) in Vernal to lead criminal prosecution efforts across multiple court systems and serve the justice system in Uintah County.

The Opportunity

Criminal prosecution in Uintah County requires skilled attorneys who can navigate complex felony and misdemeanor cases from investigation through trial. As a Deputy Attorney at one of three levels, you'll take on increasing responsibility for prosecuting cases, managing court calendars, and ensuring public safety through effective legal advocacy. This is a full-time position offering professional growth and the chance to make a tangible difference in your community through the criminal justice system.

What You'll Do

• Review cases at preliminary stages to assess evidence, witness statements, and legal merit
• Recommend and file formal charges for felony and misdemeanor offenses
• Represent the state in justice court, juvenile court, and district court proceedings
• Prepare and present cases for trial, including witness examination and legal arguments
• Manage case files, discovery materials, and court deadlines
• Negotiate plea agreements and settlement discussions when appropriate
• Ensure compliance with all prosecutorial ethics and procedural requirements

What We're Looking For

• Licensed to practice law in Utah (or eligibility to obtain licensure)
• Strong background in criminal law and prosecution
• Ability to analyze complex legal issues and evidence
• Excellent written and oral communication skills for courtroom and document preparation
• Professional judgment and commitment to public service
• Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously
