About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential cloud communications organization in their search for a Data Center Engineer to join their Infrastructure Reliability team in Atlanta, GA. This is a fully onsite position requiring five days per week in the data center, plus participation in on-call rotation.
Our client operates mission-critical infrastructure serving customers worldwide. As a Data Center Engineer, you'll be responsible for building, installing, and maintaining the hardware components that power their global operations. This role focuses on long-term planning, design, and optimization of the data center environment while ensuring reliability, security, and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement new data center infrastructure with focus on performance, scalability, and security
- Build, manage, and maintain infrastructure across global data centers
- Perform equipment installations including compute, network, storage, racks, PDUs, and cabling
- Monitor infrastructure proactively to prevent failures and service degradation
- Monitor and calculate power usage, power balancing, and power availability in each cabinet
- Collaborate with engineers and IT professionals to troubleshoot and resolve issues
- Communicate and coordinate with remote hands technicians, providing technical direction
- Maintain asset inventory in DCIM for production and lab environments
- Handle all shipping, receiving, and RMA activities
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of data center configuration
- Perform regular maintenance tasks including cleaning, inspection, and component replacement
- Manage tickets and tasks in a timely manner
- Follow change management processes and participate in off-hours change windows
- Provide 24x7 support as needed and participate in on-call rotation
- Conduct incident response and root cause analysis for platform reliability issues
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 4 years hands-on experience with data center technologies including compute, network, storage, cabling, racks, and PDUs
- Strong technical knowledge of networking, servers, storage, and virtualization
- Experience with data center design and implementation
- Deep knowledge of planning cooling, power, and space resources
- Linux/Unix system administration skills strongly desired
- Networking and SAN connectivity experience
- Experience working with vendors on quote-purchase processes, RMAs, and support interactions
- Coding skills to automate repetitive tasks and gather reporting information
- Experience supporting 24x7 customer-facing production environments
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve hardware problems independently
- Comfortable using command line interfaces and Linux/Unix operating systems
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with excellent communication abilities
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
