About This Opportunity
Our talent team is representing a confidential cryptocurrency platform in their search for a Counsel - Regulatory based in the United Kingdom. This is a fully remote position for a qualified UK lawyer who will play a critical role in navigating the evolving regulatory landscape for digital asset services.
Our client operates licensed entities across the UK and EU, offering a comprehensive suite of crypto-related financial services to millions of users globally. They're seeking a commercially-minded regulatory lawyer who can independently manage day-to-day regulatory relationships and provide pragmatic guidance on complex compliance matters.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal support on cryptoasset, e-money, and payment services regulatory requirements, including advising on account-access obligations and operational compliance matters
- Support active licensing applications and UK registration workstreams, including compiling application materials and coordinating with external counsel
- Deliver regulatory support on corporate transactions and structural changes affecting UK entities, such as change-of-control notifications and client migrations
- Manage day-to-day relationships with UK regulators for licensed entities, including handling notifications, information requests, and supervisory correspondence
- Translate complex regulatory frameworks (UK Cryptoasset Regime, FCA rulebooks, AML/CTF, operational resilience, outsourcing requirements, and payment services regulation) into clear, actionable business guidance
- Provide product advice covering emerging offerings including payment cards, payment services, and staking products
- Foster a culture of clarity through plain-English communication and decision-ready recommendations
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- Qualified lawyer (Solicitor/Barrister of England & Wales, or equivalent)
- 6+ years post-qualification experience in financial services regulatory law gained at a regulated institution (bank, payment institution, broker-dealer, exchange, crypto services provider) or supporting such clients in private practice
- Demonstrated ability to independently own business-as-usual regulatory workstreams
- Direct experience with FCA engagement, including notifications, information requests, and supervisory correspondence
- Substantive experience advising on the UK Cryptoasset Regime (FCA authorisation for regulated cryptoasset activities under FSMA 2000)
- Substantive experience with UK e-money and payment services regulation, including account-access and open banking obligations
- Experience in AML/CTF compliance, including advising on policies, controls, and regulatory expectations
- Experience with outsourcing arrangements and operational resilience compliance (FCA/PRA regime)
- Outstanding analytical, drafting, and organisational skills with crisp, plain-English writing ability
- Pragmatic, commercially accountable approach to legal and regulatory risk
- Comfortable operating with high autonomy and managing a broad, fast-moving workload from day one
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the UK's onshored MiFID regime and its application to investment services
- Experience supporting change-of-control notifications or regulatory aspects of corporate transactions
- Authentic interest in cryptocurrency and digital assets, with familiarity with industry products and competitors
