Controller (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential recycling scale-up in the Düsseldorf region for their first Controller role. This is a true ground-floor opportunity—there is no existing controlling function. You will build the entire department from scratch and report directly to executive management. This is not a fifth controller in a corporate hierarchy; you will be the economic voice directly advising leadership.

Location: Neuss, Germany (hybrid with minimum 2 days on-site)
Employment type: Full-time, permanent
Language requirements: Fluent German required, English advantageous

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly closings, budgets, and forecasts as decision-making tools for executive management
• Establish cost center accounting and perform contribution margin analyses
• Manage liquidity and working capital, coordinate financing instruments
• Develop meaningful KPIs and dashboards that leadership will actually use
• Automate repetitive finance processes in collaboration with IT
• Cover bookkeeping duties during absences (preparatory accounting)

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 3-5 years of controlling experience, ideally in an operationally-focused environment (logistics, trade, manufacturing, or production)
• Strong competence in budget planning, forecasting, cost center accounting, and contribution margin analysis
• Experience in preparatory bookkeeping
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with DATEV and EasyBill advantageous; BI or AI-supported reporting a plus
• Structured and self-reliant working style, capable of managing multiple parallel projects
• Ability to speak candidly with management, even when delivering uncomfortable truths
• Hands-on mentality—we need someone who rolls up their sleeves and gets things done
• Fluent German required; good English beneficial
