Cloud Engineer – Quantum Computing (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential quantum computing organization, and our talent team is searching for a Cloud Engineer to build and operate the cloud platform that connects users with cutting-edge quantum hardware.

In this role, you will:

• Build and operate cloud services that enable users to submit quantum programs and retrieve results
• Develop and deploy compilation pipelines as scalable cloud services, handling circuit input through transpilation to hardware-level instructions
• Design and maintain public APIs and SDK entry points to the platform
• Implement job queuing, scheduling, and dispatch systems, including quota management, prioritization, and result handling
• Own authentication and authorization across the platform, managing user and tenant identity, API keys and tokens, and role-based access using established identity providers
• Guarantee tenant isolation to ensure quantum programs and results remain segregated across customer boundaries
• Manage secrets and credentials throughout the stack
• Collaborate with firmware and hardware teams on interfaces between cloud services and physical systems
• Instrument the platform for observability and monitor latency, throughput, and cost

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 3+ years of hands-on experience building and deploying backend or platform services in production
• Strong Python skills; additional systems-level language experience (Go, Rust, C++) is welcome
• Solid API design skills (REST and/or gRPC) for developer-facing services
• Practical experience implementing authentication and authorization in production: OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect, token handling, and role-based access control
• Secure engineering habits including least privilege by default, proper secrets management, and awareness of supply-chain risks
• Infrastructure as code experience (Terraform, Pulumi, or similar) and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or similar)
• Working understanding of GDPR and data residency requirements, with genuine interest in digital sovereignty
• Ability to collaborate effectively with experimental physicists and engineers
• Strong adaptability and quick learning mindset
• Good proficiency in English (written and spoken); German is an advantage

Bonus Skills:

• Running an identity provider in production (Keycloak, Zitadel, Ory, Authentik, or managed IAM services)
• Multi-tenant isolation patterns in SaaS platforms
• Contributing to security certification work (ISO 27001, BSI IT-Grundschutz, BSI C5) or penetration test remediation
• Familiarity with quantum SDKs and toolchains or hardware abstraction interfaces
• Batch scheduling or HPC environments (Slurm or similar)
• Observability stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry
• Prior exposure to quantum computing or other deep-tech domains
