About the Role
As a Child Welfare Specialist with Oklahoma's largest state agency, you'll serve as a trusted advocate for children and families navigating complex social systems. This role centers on direct casework, investigation, assessment, and ongoing family support to ensure child safety while promoting family stability. You'll work in one of the most impactful sectors of public service, building solutions that transform lives and communities across Oklahoma.
Responsibilities
- Investigate reports of child abuse and neglect, conducting thorough assessments in homes and community settings
- Develop and implement individualized service plans for families based on identified needs and risk factors
- Conduct regular home visits and maintain close contact with children, parents, caregivers, and service providers
- Document case progress, maintain accurate records, and prepare detailed reports for court proceedings when required
- Collaborate with schools, healthcare providers, law enforcement, and community organizations to coordinate services
- Facilitate family meetings, participate in court hearings, and represent the child's best interests throughout the process
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to families working toward reunification, permanency, or other case goals
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or a closely related discipline
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with skill in documenting complex situations clearly
- Valid Oklahoma driver's license and reliable transportation for frequent travel to client homes
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and criminal history clearance
- Demonstrated capacity to handle sensitive, high-stakes situations with empathy and sound judgment
- Proficiency working with diverse populations, including different cultural backgrounds and family structures
- Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases concurrently while meeting strict deadlines
