About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential cybersecurity technology company in Australia for a Chief Information Security Officer role. This is a non-traditional CISO position that combines infrastructure ownership, security operations, and cloud platform engineering under a single remit.

The organization has recently completed significant growth funding and operates a lean, opinionated technology stack built on Google Workspace, Okta, macOS, ChromeOS, and GCP. You will own the entire enterprise technology estate—security, infrastructure, identity, networking, cloud platform, and workplace technology—with security as the foundational layer, not a separate review function.

You'll lead a team of nine across IT Operations, Security Operations, Cloud Platform Engineering, and GRC. A unique aspect of this role is serving as "customer zero" for the company's own security platform, using insights from internal operations to drive product development and go-to-market strategies.

Responsibilities

• Own the complete technology and security remit including enterprise infrastructure, security, identity, applications, and workplace technology with single accountability
• Lead and develop IT & Security Operations, Cloud Platform Engineering, and GRC functions while maintaining operational efficiency
• Build detection, analytics, orchestration and response capabilities covering both enterprise and product systems through Google SecOps and automation platforms
• Manage identity end-to-end across GCP projects and global workforce including joiner/mover/leaver processes, entitlement reviews, privileged access, and OAuth consent risk
• Oversee network and cloud perimeter security with ZTNA as the strategic access model and GCP security architecture
• Manage global end user compute fleet (predominantly macOS with ChromeOS and managed browser for BYOD) including device provisioning across all operating regions
• Oversee technology and physical security services for office locations in Australia and planned US expansion
• Maintain compliance program including SOC-2 Type II and planned ISO 27001, enterprise risk register, and security inputs to vendor management
• Serve as internal power user of the company's platform, feeding operational insights back to Product, Sales, and Customer Success teams
• Provide executive-level briefings to leadership, steering committee, board, and external stakeholders

What We're Looking For

• Strong infrastructure and operations foundation—you've run data centers, infrastructure functions, or substantial operations where security became your natural remit
• Process discipline gained in consequential environments (financial services or similar) where you learned to defend, operate, and structure systems with real failure costs
• Demonstrated ability to build and scale capability without heavy resourcing, reaching for automation before headcount—this is the most critical selection criterion
• Genuine comfort owning infrastructure, security, applications and identity together as your natural operating model
• Hands-on technical credibility to architect controls, review infrastructure-as-code changes, or lead incidents yourself while setting the technical bar by example
• Cloud-native depth with substantial GCP experience strongly preferred; deep AWS or Azure experience considered where architectural instincts transfer
• Experience with zero trust access, identity-centric security models, and modern SaaS estate management
• Direct ownership of compliance programs (SOC 2, ISO 27001 or equivalent) through audit, not just policy authoring
• Ability to absorb context rapidly and become oriented in weeks rather than quarters
• Self-directed, high-energy personal drive with comfort operating in fast-paced, high-growth, remote-first environments
• Architecture-first mindset with security as the discipline layered over infrastructure
