Automation & Industrial IT Engineer / Specialist (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential environmental technology organization that is developing advanced systems to address critical contamination challenges. Our talent team is searching for an Automation & Industrial IT Engineer / Specialist to take ownership of control, automation, and data systems for pilot and commercial-scale installations near Munich.

You will work hands-on with PLC and SCADA development, equipment integration, operational data infrastructure, and commissioning activities. This role offers the opportunity to shape the automation architecture behind innovative environmental solutions from the ground up.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain PLC software including operating modes, sequences, control loops, alarms, interlocks, and trip systems
• Build practical HMI and SCADA applications for plant control, monitoring, alarm management, trending, and fault diagnosis
• Integrate sensors, field devices, and packaged equipment into the control architecture
• Perform I/O checks and troubleshoot issues across software, communications, PLC hardware, and field instrumentation
• Maintain systems for collecting, storing, backing up, and accessing operational data from pilot and production equipment
• Support company networks, devices, user access management, and backup systems in collaboration with external IT providers where needed
• Prepare software test protocols and support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), dry and wet commissioning, startup activities, and on-site deployment
• Maintain structured documentation including source code, backups, software releases, control narratives, test results, and network records

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications and experience:

• Degree, technician certification, Meister, vocational training, or equivalent qualification in automation, electrical engineering, mechatronics, industrial IT, computer science, or related field
• Practical experience programming and commissioning PLC-controlled industrial or process equipment
• Strong PLC programming skills, including structured programming, process sequences, control loops, and online diagnostics
• Experience developing HMI or SCADA applications and working with industrial data systems
• Experience with industrial communications protocols and equipment integration
• Practical understanding of networks, computers, backup systems, access control, and cybersecurity fundamentals
• Methodical, hands-on approach to troubleshooting across software, networks, PLCs, and field devices
• Professional English proficiency; German is advantageous for site work and supplier coordination
• Structured approach to software testing, version control, release management, and documentation

Bonus qualifications:

• Functional safety or safety PLC experience
• Data analysis or automated engineering reporting capabilities
• Experience managing IT systems in a startup, laboratory, or engineering environment
