Assistant Cross Country/Track & Field Coach

Oglethorpe University, a premier liberal arts institution in North Atlanta's DeKalb County, is hiring a dedicated Assistant Coach to support the development of our competitive cross country and track and field student-athletes. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to build coaching expertise while making a meaningful impact on athletes' performance and personal growth.

About the Role

As Assistant Coach for Cross Country and Track & Field, you will work closely with our Head Coach to advance both programs, which compete in the Southern Athletic Association. This position requires hands-on involvement in all aspects of program development, from athlete recruitment and training to competition preparation and performance analysis.

What You'll Do

• Design and lead practice sessions focused on distance running, endurance training, and sport-specific conditioning
• Develop individualized training plans and monitor athlete progress throughout the season
• Mentor student-athletes on technique, strategy, and the mental aspects of competitive running
• Coordinate logistics for regional and national competitions, including travel and athlete support
• Collaborate with the Head Coach on recruiting efforts to identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes
• Foster a supportive team culture that balances athletic excellence with academic achievement

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree and coaching experience in cross country, track and field, or distance running
• Demonstrated knowledge of training principles, athlete development, and competitive sport management
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate
• Passion for student-athlete development and commitment to their academic and personal growth
• Organizational ability and flexibility to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment
