About the Role

As an Application Infrastructure Engineer at LLNL, you'll build and sustain critical systems enabling scientific computing, research innovation, and operational excellence. Working remotely for this Livermore-based laboratory, you'll architect infrastructure platforms that support physics, engineering, and computational science across diverse research domains. Your technical decisions and infrastructure expertise will directly advance groundbreaking work in nuclear science, energy, and national security.

Core Duties

• Design, implement, and operate application infrastructure platforms serving scientific research and operational systems
• Develop infrastructure-as-code solutions and automated deployment pipelines using modern tools and frameworks
• Monitor system performance, availability, and security; respond to incidents and optimize service delivery
• Partner with software development and research teams to architect infrastructure meeting application and scientific requirements
• Maintain infrastructure security, compliance, and regulatory standards governing national laboratory operations
• Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to enhance infrastructure capability and efficiency
• Support application teams with infrastructure integration, configuration, and technical guidance

Requirements

• Professional experience designing and operating application infrastructure in enterprise or high-performance computing environments
• Strong foundation in containerization, orchestration platforms, and infrastructure-as-code practices
• Hands-on expertise with cloud platforms, virtualization, or distributed systems management
• Solid knowledge of system administration, networking, and storage technologies
• Understanding of security architecture and ability to implement secure infrastructure practices
• Experience with monitoring, observability, and logging solutions
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teams
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline; or equivalent professional experience
