Position Summary

The Vice President of Intellectual Property at Sumitomo Pharma is responsible for leading and managing all intellectual property (IP) matters for the company’s global operations. This includes overseeing patent filings, portfolio management, litigation support, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations in the U.S. and Japan.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies to protect Sumitomo Pharma's intellectual property assets globally.
• Manage and maintain a robust IP portfolio through effective patent filings and prosecution.
• Provide legal support for licensing, collaboration, and commercialization agreements.
• Lead the defense and enforcement of IP rights in litigation matters.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on IP strategies that align with business objectives.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of experience in intellectual property law, preferably within the pharmaceutical industry.
• Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and familiarity with Japanese patent laws.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Experienced in managing intellectual property portfolios, including patent prosecution and litigation support.
