Phlebotomist

What This Role Involves

This position centers on the careful collection of blood specimens from patients in clinical, mobile, and point-of-care settings. You'll work directly with patients to ensure a comfortable experience while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and safety. Your role bridges the gap between patients and the laboratory, setting the tone for the entire diagnostic process. Attention to detail, steady hands, and genuine compassion for patient care are at the heart of what you'll do every day as a phlebotomist in our Amarillo facility.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples from patients using venipuncture techniques and other specimen collection methods
• Verify patient identity and confirm test requirements before collection
• Label and prepare specimens properly to maintain integrity and ensure accurate test results
• Maintain strict adherence to infection control, safety, and sanitation protocols
• Document collection information accurately in patient records and lab systems
• Communicate effectively with patients, addressing concerns and providing clear instructions
• Troubleshoot collection challenges and escalate issues to supervisors when needed

What We're Looking For

• Current certification as a phlebotomy technician (ASCP, NCA, or equivalent certification required or obtainable)
• Demonstrated phlebotomy experience or successful completion of an accredited phlebotomy program
• Strong understanding of bloodborne pathogens and OSHA safety standards
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse patient populations
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds
• Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in specimen handling
• Reliable attendance and professional demeanor
