Working Student Designer (Design System) – Heartbeat AI (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential renewable energy technology company in their search for a Working Student Designer to join their design system team in Berlin. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a sophisticated AI-powered platform that's reshaping how energy systems operate.

This role sits within the product design organization and focuses specifically on design system architecture, component libraries, and cross-functional documentation. You'll work autonomously on meaningful problems—not side tasks—while collaborating closely with designers and engineers to build scalable, reusable design infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to and maintain a scalable, code-aligned design system that supports consistent product experiences
• Audit, structure, and document components, design tokens, and UI patterns for team-wide use
• Support designers and engineers with reusable building blocks that accelerate handoff and implementation
• Leverage AI and modern design tools (Figma, Claude, Cursor) to explore solutions, iterate quickly, and document thoughtfully
• Partner with cross-functional teams, ask clarifying questions, and make design decisions transparent and easy to follow
• Identify gaps in the system proactively and propose improvements that scale

What We're Looking For

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in UX, Interaction Design, HCI, Visual Communication, or related field
• Systems-oriented mindset: you understand how individual design decisions (components, tokens, naming conventions) affect the entire ecosystem
• High degree of autonomy: you identify problems, propose solutions, and execute without waiting for direction
• Deliberate approach: you move quickly but thoughtfully, especially when it comes to foundational architecture
• Genuine curiosity about learning: you're comfortable not knowing everything and actively find smart ways to close knowledge gaps
• Interest in AI-assisted workflows: you already use or are excited to integrate AI tools into your design process and can demonstrate how
• Strong craft sensibility: you have a refined eye for visual design, interaction quality, and consistency (academic projects are welcome)
• Clear communication skills in English (working language); German is a plus
• Familiarity with Figma and an openness to tools like Claude or Cursor
