Containerization & Virtualisation Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization seeking exceptional Containerization & Virtualization Engineers. Our client is a global leader in enterprise Linux solutions, with teams distributed across 70+ countries. This is a fully remote role open to candidates anywhere in the world.

Our talent team is conducting a general selection process for software engineers with deep expertise in virtualization and container technology—from kernel-level development through userspace implementations. If you're an exceptional Go, Rust, or C/C++ engineer passionate about next-generation VMM technology, container orchestration, or cloud infrastructure, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities

• Design and specify new features for virtualization and container platforms, building consensus on technical approach
• Engage actively with upstream open-source communities in your domain
• Conduct security analysis and reviews to ensure defense-in-depth architecture
• Create and monitor performance benchmarks to optimize system-level products
• Write high-quality, security-critical and performance-critical code in C/C++, Go, Rust, or Python
• Debug complex issues across the full stack from kernel namespaces to management APIs
• Review code produced by other engineers and provide constructive feedback
• Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed engineering team

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM field (or compelling equivalent experience)
• Proven track record of working on open-source virtualization or container technology
• Experience working at the kernel level or with very low-level system programming
• Strong Linux experience (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
• Professional written and spoken English
• Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
• Result-oriented mindset with personal drive to meet commitments
• Ability to travel twice yearly for team sprints (up to two weeks each)

Valued additional skills:

• Performance engineering expertise
• Security engineering background
• Experience with RustVMM, LXD, Kubernetes, OpenStack, or similar technologies
• Contributions to container image standards or OCI specifications

Pay

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process based on your location, experience, and performance history. Our client offers competitive base pay plus a performance-driven annual bonus.
