Senior Java Engineer – Core / Infra – Get A Job.aisearch

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential search technology organization seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join their core infrastructure team. In this role, you will:

• Contribute to large-scale projects that evolve the foundational platform infrastructure for distributed search systems
• Design and implement horizontally-scalable features and APIs
• Improve developer productivity by identifying automation opportunities and integrating agentic applications into development workflows
• Solve complex performance and concurrency challenges across distributed systems
• Enhance operation and observability of cloud-based search infrastructure
• Lead cross-team technical initiatives from design through implementation
• Own operational investigations end-to-end until performance or stability issues are resolved
• Collaborate with support teams on escalated technical problems
• Work in the open with engineering teams and the broader developer community

What We're Looking For

Required Skills and Experience:

• Strong proficiency in core Java, including deep knowledge of the standard library, data structures, and concurrency constructs
• Experience with low-level Java concepts: concurrency, parallelism, classloaders, and memory management
• Proven ability to craft well-designed APIs and reason through architectural tradeoffs
• Solid foundation in algorithms and data structures
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems and practices (Buildkite, Argo CD, GitOps)
• Track record of leading large-scale projects across multiple engineering teams
• Demonstrated ability to use AI tools to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while maintaining ownership of outcomes
• Experience owning projects end-to-end, covering technical design and cross-functional collaboration
• Ability to work autonomously in a distributed environment with asynchronous communication
• Comfort diving into unfamiliar codebases and seeking help when needed

Bonus Qualifications:

• Knowledge of JDK internals: modules, Java memory model, garbage collection, caching techniques
• Experience with observability and telemetry solutions, particularly OpenTelemetry
• Knowledge of Go programming language
• Experience with containers and Kubernetes
• Proficiency with Java build tools, especially Gradle
• Prior experience working in platform or developer productivity teams
