About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential defense technology client seeking a Flight Test Engineer & Onsite Test Coordinator in Berlin. This role sits at the intersection of flight operations, team leadership, and rigorous data analysis—you'll be the "Conductor of the Flight Line," managing end-to-end test campaigns for advanced unmanned aerial systems.

You will lead daily operations at the test range, coordinate crew priorities, execute UAV flight tests in compliance with safety standards, and transform raw flight data into actionable engineering insights. This position requires both technical depth and on-site leadership capability in a high-tempo, disciplined testing environment.

Responsibilities

• Onsite Test Coordination & Leadership: Act as the primary Onsite Test Coordinator, leading daily operations and ensuring the team remains focused on test objectives. Maintain and communicate the daily flight schedule so pilots, software engineers, and support crew know exactly which tests are being conducted and when.
• Briefings & Communication: Drive morning Pre-Flight Briefs and evening Debriefs, capturing critical feedback and setting goals for the following day. Manage resource availability—airframes, ground support equipment, and personnel—to maximize range efficiency.
• Flight Execution & Safety: Coordinate and execute UAV flight tests in compliance with regulatory and safety standards. Document all flight activities and anomalies with high fidelity. Develop Flight Test Techniques (FTTs) and instrumentation requirements to capture critical performance metrics.
• Safety Reviews: Lead Flight Readiness Reviews (FRR) and contribute to safety review boards.
• Test Design & Data Analysis: Develop comprehensive flight test plans, test cards, and rigorous flight test hazard assessments (FTHA). Process and analyze flight data using MATLAB or Python to validate system performance against requirements.
• Configuration Management: Work closely with Ardupilot and PX4-based flight control systems. Manage the configuration of flight test articles, ensuring all hardware and software versions are meticulously tracked.

What We're Looking For

• Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering.
• Citizenship: Must be a citizen of a NATO member state due to export control and security regulations.
• Language: Professional-level written and verbal English.
• Coordination Skills: Proven ability to lead a technical team on-site (e.g., pilots and engineers), manage schedules, and communicate priorities clearly under pressure.
• Data Mastery: Practical experience in data reduction and analysis using MATLAB or Python.
• UAV Systems: Familiarity with Ground Control Stations (GCS), telemetry systems, and mission planning tools.
• Testing Rigor: Proven ability to plan and conduct system-level tests in an aerospace or defense environment.
• Mindset: Naturally organized with the ability to work through ambiguity on the flight line. Analytical and decisive—able to analyze data anomalies quickly and decide whether to continue testing. Meticulous documenter who believes that if it wasn't documented with high fidelity, the test never happened.

Preferred Experience:

• Active experience with uncrewed aviation.
• Hands-on experience with flight test instrumentation (FTI) and data acquisition (DAQ) systems.
• Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation environments.
