Working Student – Hardware Engineering (UAS Propulsion & Power) (all genders)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential European defense technology client seeking a Working Student in Hardware Engineering. This is a hands-on role focused on unmanned aerial systems propulsion and power engineering. You'll work directly with the components that transform stored energy into flight performance—motors, batteries, propulsion systems, and power electronics.

This position offers direct exposure to hardware characterization, test methodology, and data-driven component selection in a demanding operational environment. You'll contribute to real platforms while developing practical engineering skills in propulsion testing and power systems analysis.

Responsibilities

• Support characterization and bench testing of motors, propellers, batteries, and power components for unmanned aerial platforms
• Set up test rigs and instrumentation to capture clean, repeatable measurement data
• Assist with component selection processes by converting test data into clear comparative analyses
• Reduce and analyze test data using MATLAB and Python—evaluating efficiency, thrust, endurance, thermal performance, and discharge behavior
• Create data visualizations that enable rapid engineering decision-making
• Maintain thorough documentation of test setups, measurements, and findings to ensure traceability

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or comparable engineering field
• Working knowledge of MATLAB and Python for data analysis
• Interest in and some exposure to unmanned aerial systems, electric propulsion (motors/ESCs), or battery/power systems
• Citizenship of a NATO member state (required for export control and security compliance)
• Practical, hands-on mindset—comfortable working at the bench with instrumentation and measurement tools
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
• Rigorous approach to measurement and testing—values clean data over assumptions
• Genuine curiosity about component-level behavior and performance characteristics

Preferred:

• Experience with test benches, data acquisition systems, or measurement instrumentation
• Familiarity with battery testing, thermal behavior analysis, or motor/propeller characterization
• Personal projects involving drones, RC aircraft, battery systems, or robotics
• German language skills
