Staff Software Developer (Kotlin Libraries)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential software organization seeking a Staff Software Developer to join their Kotlin libraries team. In this role, you will:

• Create and maintain foundational libraries for core primitives used by hundreds of thousands of developers worldwide
• Develop deep expertise in specific domains of computer science and software engineering
• Serve on design committees that shape API architecture and standards
• Participate in creating standard tooling, specifications, and language features
• Dive into technical challenges such as Unicode standards, string encoding across multiple languages, timezone complexities, and JIT-friendly interface optimization
• Write comprehensive design documents for complex systems with clear reasoning behind technical decisions

What We're Looking For

Our client seeks a senior-level engineer with:

• Strong JVM development experience, including deep knowledge of Java standard library implementation details
• Proven ability to understand and work within complex technical domains
• Experience writing design documents that clearly articulate trade-offs and technical decisions
• Background in performance engineering or API design
• Comfort with deep technical investigation and iteration
• Passion for solving intricate problems that require reading specifications, comparing cross-language implementations, and optimizing for performance

This role is based in Berlin, Munich, or available fully remote. The position offers flexible work arrangements including hybrid options.

Pay
