Software Engineer, Platform – Berlin, Germany

We are representing a confidential assistive-technology organization in their search for a Software Engineer, Platform based in Berlin, Germany.

Our client serves tens of millions of users across multiple platforms and maintains critical backend infrastructure that powers subscription management, payment processing, authentication, consumption tracking, and a public-facing API used by external customers. This is a role where precision and reliability compound—systems must remain consistent across multiple client applications and billing platforms, with no room for degradation.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own APIs for payments, subscriptions, authentication, consumption tracking, and public-facing services
• Take ownership of existing services and optimize them for speed, cost-efficiency, and reliability
• Establish correctness before deployment and implement automated checks to maintain system integrity
• Automate operational tasks to free capacity for higher-impact work
• Create repeatable patterns and documentation that enable the entire team to leverage your solutions
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for external customers building on the platform
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to ensure backend architecture supports evolving product needs

What We're Looking For

• Proven backend experience in TypeScript/Node.js (required)
• Direct experience with GCP; working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another cloud platform
• Track record of delegating work you previously owned and demonstrable outcomes from the capacity created
• Active use of AI agents in your daily workflow—ability to describe what runs autonomously, what requires review, and where human oversight is non-negotiable
• Instinct to verify results against actual system state (logs, database, raw requests) rather than summaries
• Sound judgment about what not to build and clear reasoning for those decisions
• Preference for being corrected over being right
• Preferred: Docker and containerized deployments
• Preferred: Experience deploying high-availability applications on Kubernetes
