(Senior) Software Engineer

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a well-funded fintech organization building next-generation banking infrastructure in Berlin. This is a rare opportunity to work on core financial systems from the ground up as a senior individual contributor on a small, high-performing engineering team.

We're seeking exceptional backend engineers who want to solve genuinely complex technical problems in the financial services domain. You'll own significant projects end-to-end, make architectural decisions from day one, and work directly with product and stakeholders to translate complex requirements into clean, reliable code.

Responsibilities

• Design and build core banking system components that handle real financial transactions
• Own large technical projects from conception through delivery, working autonomously with minimal oversight
• Make critical technical decisions about system architecture, data modeling, and engineering tradeoffs
• Collaborate directly with product and business stakeholders to shape what gets built
• Write clean, maintainable code that operates reliably at scale in a regulated environment
• Contribute to technical direction and influence how banking systems evolve over time
• Mentor through example—your code quality and technical thinking set the standard
• Ship iteratively and frequently rather than waiting for perfect solutions

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with backend focus
• 2+ years working in early-stage startup or small team environments
• Based in Berlin or willing to relocate to Germany
• Track record of being a top-tier engineer—former teammates would rank you in the top 5%
• Strong ownership mentality and ability to drive projects independently
• Systems thinking approach to problem-solving

Pay

Our client has indicated a compensation range of €100,000–€150,000 base salary plus equity, based on experience and expertise. This position is located in Berlin, Germany and offers relocation support for qualified candidates.
