Engineering Manager (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking an Engineering Manager to join their Payment Processing division in Grasbrunn, Germany. This is a leadership role for someone who can balance technical expertise with people management, guiding a cross-functional team responsible for high-volume transaction systems that demand exceptional reliability and compliance.

Our client operates at the intersection of payments technology and artificial intelligence, building systems that process merchant transactions at scale. You'll lead experienced engineers while partnering closely with Product, Risk, and Operations teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers, managing hiring, performance reviews, and career progression
• Maintain hands-on involvement when needed, contributing to code, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and supporting the team with your expertise
• Own delivery, quality, and reliability for one or more product areas, balancing technical decisions with business priorities
• Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to shape roadmaps, plan capacity, and ensure predictable delivery
• Drive continuous improvement of engineering practices, tooling, and processes while removing blockers for your team
• Contribute to technical and architectural direction, making sound decisions while empowering engineers to own implementation details

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or similar field, with substantial software engineering experience
• Prior people-management or tech-lead experience with proven ability to coach and develop engineers
• Strong technical foundation in languages such as Java, Kotlin, and/or JavaScript, with experience in large-scale systems
• Sufficient technical depth to guide architecture and challenge technical decisions
• Familiarity with Agentic Software Engineering and AI-driven development lifecycles
• Deep understanding of Agile delivery, CI/CD pipelines, and quality practices
• Experience with cloud-based, containerized environments (Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS) is a plus
• Fluent English with excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills
• Valid work permit for Germany (visa sponsorship is not available)
