Construction Job Cost Accountant

We are representing a confidential construction organization based in the United States that specializes in community development projects. Our talent team is seeking an experienced Construction Job Cost Accountant to join their finance operations on a remote, full-time basis from Costa Rica or elsewhere in Latin America.

This is a fully remote independent contractor position requiring availability during U.S. business hours and professional English proficiency. You will serve as a critical financial partner to project teams, ensuring accurate cost tracking and reporting across an active portfolio of construction projects.

Responsibilities

As the Job Cost Accountant, you will own the accuracy and integrity of job cost data across multiple active projects. Your core responsibilities include:

• Running, reviewing, and distributing weekly and monthly job cost reports from Sage 100 for all active projects
• Reconciling project management software commitments, change orders, and invoicing against accounting system job cost detail
• Reviewing cost coding for accounts payable invoices, subcontractor billings, labor, and equipment charges before they close to jobs
• Conducting formal monthly job cost reviews with Project Managers and Construction Managers, analyzing budget vs. actual costs and forecast-to-complete estimates
• Owning the monthly Work in Progress (WIP) schedule, including percentage of completion calculations, earned revenue, and over/under billings
• Partnering with project leadership to validate monthly cost-to-complete estimates and challenge outdated forecasts
• Establishing tracking approaches for specialized construction activities, including appropriate cost codes and reporting structures
• Maintaining accurate financial data across Sage 100 and construction project management systems
• Building and maintaining Excel reporting workbooks for job cost, WIP, committed cost, and project financial performance
• Identifying financial variances and coordinating corrections with project stakeholders

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 3–6 years of job cost accounting experience with a general contractor, specialty contractor, or construction company
• Construction industry accounting experience is essential
• Hands-on experience with Sage 100 Contractor or Sage 100 construction job cost modules
• Working proficiency with construction project management software (commitments, change orders, invoicing)
• Experience preparing and maintaining WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion calculations
• Strong understanding of cost codes, committed costs, project budgets, actual costs, and cost-to-complete forecasting
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, reconciliations, and reporting workbooks
• Proven ability to reconcile financial information across accounting and project management systems
• Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Professional written and verbal communication skills in English
• Ability to work effectively with U.S.-based teams in a fully remote environment during U.S. business hours

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience supporting multiple active construction projects simultaneously
• Direct experience conducting monthly financial reviews with Project Managers and Construction Managers
• Knowledge of construction revenue recognition and percentage-of-completion accounting
• Experience with accounts payable coding, subcontractor billing, and construction cost controls
• Familiarity with AI or automation tools to improve accounting and reconciliation workflows
