About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential robotics organization based in Munich, Germany. Our client is developing cutting-edge autonomous systems with multi-agent coordination capabilities. They're seeking a talented Robotics Software Engineering Intern to join their international team working on distributed robotic platforms.
This is a hands-on internship where you'll contribute to real systems that operate in field environments, not just simulation. You'll work alongside experienced engineers on software tooling, simulation infrastructure, and system observability while potentially contributing to core robotics capabilities such as SLAM, navigation, perception, or planning.
Responsibilities
- Develop data-driven dashboards and monitoring tools to visualize and analyze system performance across multiple robotic agents
- Extend simulation frameworks with key performance indicators, automated test scenarios, and evaluation workflows
- Analyze data from both simulation and field testing to identify system issues and improvement opportunities
- Contribute to core robotics software in areas such as state estimation, perception, planning, control, or mission execution
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including robotics engineers, simulation specialists, and embedded systems developers
- Validate software on actual robotic platforms and support field testing activities
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Autonomous Systems, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
- Strong programming skills in C++, ideally with modern standards (C++17/20)
- Solid foundation in algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles
- Basic understanding of robotics fundamentals including coordinate frames, sensor data, estimation, planning, or control
- Comfortable working in Linux environments
- Curious about complex robotic systems with motivation to understand how components integrate
- Ability to work independently on technical problems while actively seeking feedback
- Genuine interest in autonomous systems and robotics technology
- NATO-aligned or close ally citizenship required
Valuable Experience (from academic projects, research, student teams, or previous internships):
- ROS or ROS 2 experience
- Hands-on experience with real robots, embedded systems, or hardware-in-the-loop setups
- Background in SLAM, navigation, computer vision, estimation, filtering, or planning algorithms
- Interest or exposure to multi-agent systems or distributed robotics
- Experience working with LiDAR or camera sensor data
- Familiarity with autopilot systems such as PX4 or ArduPilot
- Experience with simulation platforms (Gazebo, Isaac Sim, Unreal Engine)
- Knowledge of embedded platforms, GPU computing, or networking
- Exposure to machine learning methods
- Extra-curricular projects, robotics competitions, or research achievements
Professional Qualities:
- Strong problem-solving mindset and eagerness to learn
- Structured and reliable approach to technical work
- Comfortable with ambiguity and problems without predefined solutions
- Collaborative mindset and openness to technical feedback
- High ethical standards and disciplined work ethic
