Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential robotics organization seeking a Systems and Safety Engineer to own system-level engineering and functional safety for advanced electromechanical products. In this role, you will determine whether designs meet safety thresholds for deployment, as identifying hazards at this stage is critical to preventing real-world injury.

  • Requirements Management: Elicit, write, review, and manage system, subsystem, and safety requirements with full traceability, maintaining links between requirements, architecture, implementation, and verification artifacts across the entire system lifecycle.
  • System Architecture: Define, maintain, and review system and subsystem architecture, including interfaces, functional decomposition, and requirements allocation across the system.
  • Hazard and Safety Analysis: Perform hazard analysis, risk assessment, and failure analysis (FMEA, FMEDA, fault tree analysis where applicable), and define safety concepts, safety functions, and fault reaction strategies based on findings.
  • Certification Work Products: Develop and maintain safety and systems engineering documentation required for certification, including safety plans, verification and validation plans, and system architecture documentation.
  • Cross-Team Coordination: Collaborate across hardware, software, mechanical, and test teams to ensure system coherence, safety compliance, and full coverage by traceable requirements.

What We're Looking For

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Systems and Safety Experience: Demonstrated experience applying systems engineering and functional safety practices to complex electromechanical systems.
  • Failure Analysis Techniques: Hands-on experience conducting FMEA, FMEDA, or fault tree analysis to identify and assess system hazards.
  • Safety Standards: Strong understanding of machinery and robot safety standards, including ISO 10218, ISO 13849, IEC 61508, IEC 60204, IEC 61800, and IEC 61010.
  • Technical Literacy: Ability to read and understand electronic schematics and related firmware at a system level.
