Backend Engineer – Agentic AI (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI-powered agency in Berlin that is transforming how professional services operate in the age of artificial intelligence. Our client has built a multi-agent platform from the ground up and is now scaling their technical team to expand their production systems.

As their second backend engineer, you'll work directly with the founding technical team to own the architecture, expand the agent orchestration layer, and build the platform that powers their daily operations. This is a high-autonomy role where your technical decisions shape the product direction.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the core platform using TypeScript, Python, PostgreSQL, and Next.js
• Build and orchestrate multi-agent AI systems using LangGraph and related frameworks, including self-learning loops and agent coordination
• Design and evolve system architecture including workflows, data models, APIs, and compliance requirements
• Develop backend services using frameworks such as FastAPI, NestJS, or Spring Boot
• Manage both relational and vector database architectures for production workloads
• Deploy and maintain container-based infrastructure using Docker and cloud platforms
• Collaborate closely with product management and leadership to translate business requirements into technical solutions

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 3+ years of software development experience
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Python, PostgreSQL, Docker, and Git
• Experience building backend systems with frameworks like FastAPI, Spring Boot, or NestJS
• Hands-on experience with container-based and cloud-native architectures (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, or similar)
• 1+ year of experience developing AI agents and components including memory systems, context engineering, retrieval, and orchestration using frameworks such as LangChain, CrewAI, or LangGraph
• German language skills at B2 level minimum (C1 preferred, or willingness to reach C1 within first year)

Preferred:

• Strong SQL skills and experience with API design, schema design, and query optimization
• Experience integrating AI/ML models into production systems with understanding of model behavior, performance, and limitations
• Product engineering mindset with ability to evaluate requirements from business and user perspectives
• Experience with event-driven architecture (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar)
• Familiarity with agentic development tools (Claude Code, Codex, or similar)
