Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential retail technology organization seeking a Data Engineering Manager to lead their data transformation platform team in Paris or Villeneuve-d'Ascq.

As the manager of a team of 7 data platform engineers and 1 product manager, you will be responsible for maintaining, evolving, and promoting the data transformation stack, including Databricks for computing and Astronomer for orchestration.

Your core responsibilities include:

  • Team Leadership: Define the technical vision and co-build the team roadmap
  • Delivery & Quality: Ensure high-quality delivery that meets deadlines and governance indicators
  • People Development: Bridge organizational vision with day-to-day operations while focusing on individual growth and skills development of team members
  • Budget Management: Manage team and tooling budgets, respecting current fiscal year constraints while planning ahead
  • Performance Management: Conduct individual missions, development plans, and performance reviews to support the team's skill advancement
  • Best Practices: Guide users toward the best practices your team defines for the modern data stack

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate brings:

  • Solid experience managing technical teams in data or cloud engineering, ideally in an international or large-scale context
  • Strong understanding of modern data stack challenges and hands-on experience with tools like Databricks and Airflow/Astronomer
  • Ability to balance strategic vision (roadmap, budget) with operational excellence (delivery, agile practices)
  • Recognition for human qualities, active listening, and proven ability to develop team members
  • Experience with lakehouse architecture and data platform scalability
  • Comfort working in French language environment in France
