Front End Design Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a well-funded, early-stage technology company building AI-powered enterprise software for a traditionally paper-heavy regulated industry. They are live in production with major enterprise clients and experiencing demand that significantly outpaces their current build capacity. This role exists to help solve that problem.

Our client's technical team includes former engineers from top-tier technology companies and successful startups, with a hiring bar set exceptionally high. As their Front End Design Engineer, you will own the complete interface experience for expert users working with complex, document-intensive workflows—from initial concept through production deployment.

Responsibilities

• Design and build complete user interfaces for expert workflows involving dense regulatory and technical data
• Own layout, typography, interaction design, motion, and the underlying design system
• Write production React code that ships the experiences you design
• Observe real users working in the product and iterate based on actual behavior, not assumptions
• Make complex information hierarchies clear and actionable for daily expert use
• Design interfaces for AI-assisted workflows where users review and correct model output
• Ship to production in your first week and maintain ownership of your product surface area

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience designing and building interfaces that real users depend on daily—not portfolio pieces, but shipped products that evolved based on user feedback
• Strong visual and interaction design taste with the ability to articulate why specific choices matter (typography, spacing, motion, hierarchy)
• Full-stack frontend capability: you design the interface, build the React implementation, and handle the state and data layers
• Experience designing for density and complexity—expert tools, not consumer landing pages
• User research mindset: you observe how people actually work and design accordingly
• High engineering standards and ability to move quickly without sacrificing craft

Valued but not required: design engineering experience at product-focused technology companies, design system ownership, experience with AI review/correction interfaces, early-stage startup or founding team experience, participation in startup accelerator programs.

Location: London (in-person, Shoreditch area). This is a high-intensity, high-ownership environment with significant in-office collaboration expectations.
