Software Engineer, Platform – Brighton, United Kingdom

Responsibilities

Our client, a confidential audio-technology company, is seeking a Software Engineer to join their Platform team in Brighton. You will own and evolve the backend systems that power subscription management, payment processing, authentication, consumption tracking, analytics, and a public-facing API serving tens of millions of users across multiple platforms.

Your responsibilities include:

• Designing, building, and maintaining APIs for payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption metering, and external integrations
• Taking ownership of existing services and improving their performance, cost-efficiency, and reliability
• Ensuring correctness before deployment and implementing automated checks to maintain system integrity over time
• Automating repetitive aspects of your role to free capacity for higher-impact work
• Creating reusable patterns and tooling that enable the broader engineering team
• Developing B2B and enterprise integrations for external customers building on the platform
• Collaborating with product, mobile, and web teams to ensure backend architecture supports future product direction

What We're Looking For

We are representing a client who values engineers that systematically reduce complexity and expand their scope through automation and disciplined systems thinking. The ideal candidate will have:

• Proven backend engineering experience with TypeScript and Node.js (required)
• Direct hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform; working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another major cloud provider
• A track record of delegating or automating work you previously owned, with demonstrable outcomes from the capacity gained
• Active daily use of AI tooling and agents, with clear reasoning about what runs autonomously, what requires review, and where human judgment is non-negotiable
• A habit of verifying results against primary sources—logs, database state, raw requests—rather than relying on summaries
• Strong judgment about what not to build, and the ability to articulate why something was deprioritized
• A preference for receiving corrections over defending positions
• Preferred: experience with Docker and containerized deployments
• Preferred: deploying high-availability applications on Kubernetes
