About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking a Software Engineer for their Platform team in Bristol, United Kingdom. This is a fully remote position within a distributed engineering culture.

Our client serves over 50 million users across multiple platforms, and the Platform team owns the critical backend infrastructure that powers everything: public APIs, payments, subscriptions, authentication, consumption tracking, and analytics. These are high-stakes systems where correctness is non-negotiable—subscription state must remain consistent across five clients and two app-store billing systems, consumption metering must be precise enough to bill on while remaining cost-effective at scale, and the public API serves external customers who depend on uptime and latency.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own APIs behind payments, subscriptions, authentication, consumption tracking, and public-facing services
• Take ownership of existing services and improve their performance, cost-efficiency, and reliability
• Establish correctness before shipping changes and implement ongoing validation mechanisms
• Automate repetitive aspects of your role to create capacity for higher-impact work
• Create reusable solutions and patterns that benefit the entire engineering team
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers building on top of the platform
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep backend architecture aligned with product roadmap

What We're Looking For

• Proven backend experience in TypeScript/Node.js (required)
• Direct experience with Google Cloud Platform; working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another major cloud provider
• Track record of delegating or automating previous responsibilities and leveraging that capacity for greater scope
• Active daily use of AI tooling—you should be able to describe in detail what runs unattended, what you review, and where human judgment is essential
• Instinct to verify results against actual system state (logs, database, requests) rather than relying on summaries
• Strong judgment about what not to build, with clear reasoning for technical decisions
• Preference for being corrected over being right
• Preferred: Docker and containerized deployment experience
• Preferred: Experience deploying high-availability applications on Kubernetes
