AI Researcher – Post-Training (f/m/d)

Our talent team is representing a confidential AI technology organization at the forefront of code verification and software quality. This senior research position is based in Bochum, Germany, and focuses on advancing large language model post-training techniques for enterprise coding applications.

We are seeking an ambitious AI researcher who will work hands-on with state-of-the-art post-training methods, translating cutting-edge research into practical products that serve enterprise customers building AI-assisted development workflows.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement advanced post-training solutions that enable enterprise customers to fine-tune models for high-quality code generation that meets their organizational standards
• Design and execute experiments to test hypotheses around model post-training approaches, iterating quickly from proof-of-concept to production-ready products
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams including researchers, research engineers, MLOps specialists, and software engineers to build next-generation coding model capabilities
• Serve as a subject matter expert on LLM post-training techniques, contributing ideas and driving innovation within the research team
• Stay current with the latest developments in large language models and agentic AI, sharing knowledge and explaining complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
• Convert successful research prototypes into cutting-edge products that deliver measurable customer impact

What We're Looking For

• Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field
• 4+ years of industry experience in machine learning with solid understanding of modern software engineering practices
• Fluency in Python and core ML frameworks; experience with Rust, C#, C++, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Java is advantageous
• Deep expertise in LLM post-training techniques including:
  • Policy optimization algorithms (GRPO, PPO)
  • Verifier-based RL frameworks (RLVR)
  • Supervised fine-tuning (SFT)
  • Data-centric AI methods including synthetic data generation and curation
  • Parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT)
  • Preference and safety alignment methods
• Proven track record of driving research projects from initial findings through prototype development to product delivery
• Excellent English communication skills with the ability to explain complex scientific topics clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Bochum, Germany
