Backend Developer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization expanding its digital banking platform across multiple markets. Our talent team is searching for experienced backend developers who can build production-grade infrastructure for financial services at scale.

This is a remote position for candidates currently based in Australia. Strong English communication is essential for working with distributed global teams.

Responsibilities

• Build backend services and APIs supporting core banking functions including onboarding, accounts, payments, transfers, and KYC workflows
• Design reliable systems capable of handling real customer transactions and operational processes across multiple markets
• Integrate with financial partners, payment providers, third-party platforms, and internal services
• Own backend quality including reliability, security, latency, observability, and data integrity
• Collaborate with product, frontend, mobile, and AI teams to deliver features efficiently and safely
• Improve existing systems by simplifying workflows, reducing manual processes, and building automation
• Handle incident response and maintain production system health

What We're Looking For

• Strong backend engineering experience building production systems
• Solid understanding of APIs, databases, authentication, authorization, queues, jobs, events, and integrations
• Proven experience building services used by real customers or supporting internal operations at meaningful scale
• Strong focus on debugging, reliability, security, and data quality
• Ability to make practical trade-offs between speed, correctness, scalability, and maintainability
• Experience in fintech, payments, banking, wallets, KYC, fraud, or risk is a strong advantage but not required if fundamentals are solid
• Must be currently based in Australia
• Strong English communication skills required

This role is not suitable for: Engineers seeking isolated backend tasks, those who overlook security or operational risk, developers uncomfortable with fast-changing requirements, or candidates who cannot demonstrate clear ownership of production systems.
